The scope of this commercial steel building project included the installation of a metal roof and sidewalls, followed by installing insulation and liner panels. The commercial steel frame building is owned by the fabulous people at GN Excavating & Trucking Corp. and Chapman Industrial Minerals and Services in Lewisport, KY.
When it comes to steel and metal building insulation, there are a few options to choose from. Batt and blanket insulation is a common, cost-effective way to insulate metal and steel frame buildings. Having said that, not all insulation is created equal, especially when it comes to insulating buildings with a metal exterior.
Insulating steel and metal buildings presents two primary challenges:
- Preventing heat transference, and,
- Preventing condensation
Given these unique challenges, it’s a good idea to hire an experienced professional to insulate your commercial metal building using specialized insulation. The insulation used in metal and steel buildings features a special radiant barrier backing. This special insulation effectively addresses the two primary challenges associated with insulating metal buildings. Notice the white backing on the insulation used in this project.
To put the finishing touches on this building, we installed partial-height inside liner panels. Inside liner panels are 3-feet wide sheets of metal that are anchored to the metal frame. In addition to serving as attractive interior walls, liner panels also provide a protective covering for the insulation and exterior walls (because forklifts happen!).
